A Little Bit About Me...

I am a huge supporter students tutoring students. I have found that working with students helps to take down a barrier between the tutor and tutee. Students are more comfortable to work with peers than an authority. My first priority is to listen, listen to what the tutee is looking to get out of the experience. Each student's needs are different and you have to plan around them. When I am tutoring I strive to make the tutee vocal. I like to allow students to think for themselves and see how they approach the challenge. I am there to guide their thinking process and strengthen their knowledge not lecture to them.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a substitute teacher in the Bethalto school district, I feel I have been trained in all of the subjects necessary to tutor students. On a daily occurrence, I teach math, science, english, reading, social studies, etc. My specialties are english and reading. English was my minor in college and is something that has always been second nature to me. I was also a personal tutor for a child in the spring of '08 an fall of '08. His grades improved drastically from Ds and Fs, to Bs.
I have a very unique way of teaching. My key to success works on a system of discipline and rewards. I find creative ways to make the most mundane tasks fun to accomplish. I think the number on rule in teaching strategy should be finding a way to make the process enjoyable. Because science is a "hands-on" subject, I feel it is extremely important to use demonstrations, examples that are relevant to every-day life, experiments and anything else that will help students understand the world around them. I have been told that I have an "out-of-the-box" approach to learning, but have found it to be successful with the majority of students. Classroom discussions are utilized more often then lectures, because when a student plays an active role in their education, they learn more.
