My comments on tutoring Desktop Publishing : I have worked with publishing programs since 1990 with large publishing companies.

I work normally in groups to mentor staff/clients or students to understand the importance of great design through typography and quality design using basic programs like pagemaker through to InDesign. Individual one-on-one is preferable as I can dedicate my time to bring out the creative expressions. Professional design can make the difference by setting you apart from the competition. I like to give a student the edge with eye-catching graphics and make a statement about that will get them attention
I am a strong creative, strategic and conceptual thinker with a deep understanding of the digital space and a genuine love for design and technology. As the Creative and Marketing Director I have successfully directed creative and technical teams, client relationships and new business opportunities. I enjoy leading and inspiring as much as I do rolling my sleeves up and getting th ... read more

Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.
Web manager and usability analyst as well as instructor. I have been asked at various jobs to teach training classes to my peers because of my ability to deliver an easy to understand lesson. I've been told I am very good at explaining a topic that someone has no experience with at all. I am on contract with NC States Computer Training Unit.

My comments on tutoring Desktop Publishing : Creating publications for print or for online delivery using InDesign or Publisher

I have been in the field of education for 10+ years. I taught Computer Science courses that included Web Design and New Media, Desktop Publishing and Computer Graphics. I like building my own computer since the ones I see on the retail are not powerful enough for my own purposes. I have designed websites and managed the websites including the one of the school where I previously worked. Managing it means doing some tweaking of the HTML codes and the CSS. I do a lot of Graphics and photo editing since I also shoot a lot of pictures. I Have design posters, logos, and animations for web ads. I keep learning new stuff since technology keeps on advancing and evolving.

I enjoy teaching any age student, but more than that I get satisfaction when that student attains their goal. I believe in using the Socratic method of teaching and allowing the student to get their own answers rather than just telling them. I seek ... read more

I have tutored throughout school and into college. During college, I mentored and tutored two young girls from an under-privileged school for a local program. After college, I did some private consulting, helping people write admissions essays and prepare for the ACT and other standardized tests. I've also worked as a Google Answers Researcher and as a grants adviser to nonprofit foundations.
I like to get to know the child and form a friendship with him or her. Once we develop a rapport it is easier for them to open up to me. When the comfort level is established we then develop a mutual-learning relationship, as I can learn from the student just as much as he or she can learn from me.

I am very comfortable working with students of all ages. I want education to be the first priority in life, because it opens many doors in the future and gives life purpose. Students take to me because I respect who they are and I want to find their strengths and help them utilize critical thinking when solving problems. By tutoring once again, I hope to make a one-to-one impact.
I graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill considered to be one of the top five public institutions if not one of the top twenty-five universities in the nation. As the oldest of three children, I have informally tutored for many years. While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I worked with a community college student and aided him in passing his Algebra course. My interests in education are diverse. I have a liberal arts degree which drew heavily upon my writing skills. Additionally, I was completing my prerequisites for medical school which required math and science analytical skills. Before beginning medical school, I spent several months in Guatemala learning Spanish. I then worked for a year at a boarding school for learning disabled children and tutored these students in math, English and science.
Learning is an incredibly individual phenomenon. I believe patience and creativity are essential to helping children learn. A concept can be explained in many different ways and modalities and the key is to find which styles of learni ... read more

Currently I'm a senior at UNC of Chapel Hill majoring in Mathematical Decision Science. I haven't had any paid tutoring experience, but I tutored many of my peers in high school in math, history, and language arts. I am pretty good at working with them and helping them understand math and science concepts. My grades were consistently A's and B's. During high school I've also visited local elementary school and worked with kids there mainly as a teacher's assistant. In addition, as a native Chinese, I'm fluent in Mandarin.
First of all, I love teaching and working with all kids. Secondly, I have a very interactive style to tutoring and have a creative mind that helps find the easiest ways for students to learn/remember/memorize difficult concepts or vocabulary. I'm very motivating and enthusiastic, which I believe converts well into good and clear explanations and understandi ... read more

As a second career I wanted to put something back into my community. So as I went back to school a few years ago to complete my MBA, I thought that I wanted to teach in public schools. I was a non-traditional teacher. I therefore had to work as a substitute teacher and as a tutor because I am not yet certified. So I worked as Coach(Academic K-12)and I enjoy it. As soon as I can I will get certified, but tutoring is a wonderful way to learn how to teach and interact.
Because I am a Business major, I tend to like to work with only numbers. But my tutoring career began with kids that were below grade level in reading. So I used my business mindset to give my young clients(students) stories that were of interest to them and I made sure that the stories were easy reading and I gradually got the kids to read "at grade level". My style is to empower the kids to make them feel as if they c ... read more

I feel very passionate about education and learning. I think the key to teaching is to engage students, and make content interesting and relevant to their lives. I truly believe that the ideal teaching situation is via one-on-one instruction, because I feel students understand the content better, they can work at their own pace, and they feel comfortable asking questions. I am dedicated to providing all students an equal education, and I am comfortable working with students from diverse social and economic backgrounds. I think education is the key to empowerment.
For the past two years, I was the high school English teacher in a small, rural Alaskan village located on the Yukon River. This teaching position was very challenging--I had to teach several subjects, such as English, social studies, geography, art, keyboarding, drama, journalism, and digital photography. I loved teaching since my first teaching experience in 1974 that iinvolved working as a long-term substitute at the Omega School in Madison, Wisconsin. The Omega School, an alternative hiigh school that occupied a few rooms in an an old office buiilding, helped high risk students who couldn't fit into a regular high school environment obtain their GED. Some students were gifted but unable to adjust to the regimens of regular high school. Others stole cars or acted out in other ways. My next teachiing experience was in 1975 as a teaching assistant at the University of California, Irvine. T.A.'s taught their own classes and were responsible for lectures, grading, assignments. I taught composition and literature. I loved it and felt at home. My supervisor, now a professor at Duke, told me I was a "natural teacher." I've been teaching ever since. I've taught journalism, science writing, huma ... read more

Additionally, I have worked informally with numerous friends and family members to aid in their studies and work in math, essay composition, business, and technology.
