I graduated high school with a high GPA and a 1420/1600 SAT score, I was granted the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship to attend college, where I graduated in three and a half years with honors. As a Management major, I was one of the best writers in my classes. I feel that my education has adequately prepared me to tutor students in English, sociology, philosophy, and mathematics. For the past two and a half years, I have served as a volunteer Young Life leader at Wren High School. Mentoring high school students, I have learned how to communicate with them.
I truly believe that every student has the opportunity to perform well academically. While school comes naturally to some, others need someone to come beside them to help them learn. The best educators creat ... read more

I was a peer tutor in high school for English and Spanish. I also tutored children in Hebrew at a local temple. In addition, I volunteered as a tutor for underprivileged children in Chicago in all areas: Spelling, Reading, Writing, Math, Language, etc. for grades K-8.
I love to work with children of all ages and genders. I have worked with children who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities as well as children of all ages, races, and genders. I attempt to make learning as fun and relevant to the child as possible as every child has varying levels of understanding and concentrations. I am extremely patient and can handle anything. I first start by explaining the material the way that I understand it. I also show examples to show how the problems are solved. If it doesn't seem to be taking then I start to break the problems down into simple steps and explain each step until the student understands. I also try to relate the material to them so they can relate to the material on a more personal level so that the information will stick with them better.
During my time at Hampden-Sydney College, I was a math tutor, computer science tutor, and a physics tutor. I started tutoring my junior year of college where I just tutor math and computer science. I mostly help students with Calc I and Calc for Econ problems. In my senior year, I continued to tutor math, but I tutored stats instead of calculus. I also tutored physics.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a child I always enjoyed math classes and the complexities of numbers. Into college I continued my fascination with math and that yearning led me to earn a degree in finance. I currently work for a financial institution where I am the AVP specializing in underwriting.
I have always understood math concepts and in school helped to teach my fellow students when our teacher could not gain their perspective. I believe that each learner should be taught based on their individual learning style. Often times the success of the teacher depends on their teaching style. I believe that I can teach mathematical concepts to anyone.
