I earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry with a minor in math. I love to work with children of all ages and genders. I have worked with children who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities as well as children of all ages, races, and genders. I attempt to make learning as fun and relevant to the child as possible as every child has varying levels of understanding and concentrations. I am extremely patient and can handle anything. I like to relate learning to childrens' lives (make it about basketball if the boy likes basketball, or about chocolate if the girl likes chocolate).

As a retired broadcast engineer who loves math, I chose to begin a new career in education, tutoring math. As a student I competed in math contests. I placed in the top ten in the East Tennessee region two years in a row. I have made extensive use of my math background in my career as an engineer and now I use my engineering career as background for teaching math. I have tutored students in middle school, high school and college levels. I have even tutored adults who were preparing for the GACE exam required for teacher certification in Georgia.
I think it is best to help a student understand concepts and establish steps to attack a problem. I do not simply give them the answers.
