My comments on tutoring Chess : Decent chess player

I have just finished junior year of high school and will be a senior this fall. Throughout my life I have always been especially good at math. I never fail to get an A in math every year. In 10th grade I decided to skip Pre-Calculus from Algebra 2 to AP Calculus BC when I enter 11th grade. Interestingly, I still found AP Calculus BC to be relatively easy. I am the vice president of a tutor club at La Costa Canyon High School. I teach students after school all subjects. I also tutored students outside of school. During my junior year I tutored a girl in Pre-Algebra who did not understand how graphs work. I also tutored a high-schooler in Pre-Calculus two weeks ago who had a final in two days. I came to his house and tutored him for a total of 15 hours (he needed lots of help) in those two days.
Very patient. Usually I will explain the concept, present a practice problem, ... read more

As an alumnus of the University of Oxford and of Duke University, I know what it takes to get a good education and to be a proficient student. I am available to tutor Spanish, writing, and the LSAT, scoring a 5 on the Spanish Language AP examination, a 4 on the Spanish Literature AP examination, and a 5 on the English Literature examination; I also received a 177 out of a possible 180 on the LSAT; finally, I received a 2300 out of a possible 2400 on the SAT, including perfect 800s on the verbal and writing portions of that test. I have two years' experience as an editor and a year's experience as a tutor.
The essence of my teaching style is adaptation. While there are a few principles which any student can use to become a more effective learner, the implementation of these principles must be modified to meet the particular student's needs. Learning a language, writing, and standard ... read more

I teach/train to the needs of the individual. It is important to tutor people in the way in which they are most comfortable. They learn faster, retain more, and enjoy what they are learning, which allows them to apply what they learn, rather than just memorizing data.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from University of California Riverside and received my bachelor's degree in Mathematics. Not only I gain more understanding in Math, I also spent most of my time with my fellow classmates helping each other for our Math assignments in college. During the spring 2010, I tutored one student who is struggling in Algebra 1 and helped her pass the class.
I love Math, and I would love to have the opportunity to teach children and adults especially students from k-12th grade who are struggling in Math. My teaching style would be to teach Math as simple and understandable as possible. I would also make my teaching style to be fun but my priority is to tutor students to be successful in their education.

A Little Bit About Me...

I prefer to approach every student very slowly in the beginning to understand exactly where their trouble are. Listening is the most important attribute that a tutor can have followed by patience. It's my job to identify where the student's problem are and address those problems. My experience has tought me that most people just need a new perspective to understand certain materials at hand. Providing applications for someone learning new concepts is key for their development because the student understands how the concepts they're learning applies in the real world. I have been told by many of my former students that this is the reason they learn the concepts so well.

Teaching and tutoring has always been a passion of mine. I have always believed that every person is capable of understanding and learning, provided the right teaching method is used. I am patient and take the time to teach my students the subject at hand--mostly using logic and analogies as examples. I usually quiz them as I teach, always assuring they understand and not moving forward until everything is well understood. When one method doesn't work, I try another method. I don't ever give up on my students. I know they can learn. It's just a matter of how, finding the right method, and applying it.
