A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that in order to succeed in teaching and being an educator you must inspire those that you are teaching. A child who is excited to learn, will do much better. I feel a hands on approach is best, guiding the child to personal success.
As a Siena College graduate I developed a very hands on approach to active learning. Through classroom lecture and instruction I've completed the necessary coursework to complete my BS of biology. Due to my strong work ethic I've gained knowledge and skills in the physical sciences, as well as in other subject areas. During my college years I subbed as teacher at a public K-12 school. During that time I taught a variety of grade levels, and worked as a one-on-one aide.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been an amateur tutor ever since high school, when I tutored classmates for free. I spent 6 years as a nuclear trained electrician in the US Navy, 10 years in academia where I studied and taught psychology, biology, and communications, and the past 10 years in retail management. I took it upon myself to conduct impromptu training sessions in many different areas of study while in the Navy, and actively helped shipmates engaged in external study programs. I implemented a tutoring program for pre-med and pre-vet students and others while a member of Beta-Beta-Beta (the National Honor Society for Biology) at Southern Illinois University. In science and math the learner has to practice much like learning to play a musical instrument. It helps if you can bring real world applications into the classroom so it is meaningful to the students otherwise they feel like they are learning something just for the cause of learning.
While completing my teaching degree I taught for three years with troubled youth. Subjects were regents level and the subject was earth science and algebra or course I as it is called in NY. I have also taught Summer school at the Allen Center in South Kortright which can be a tough crowd to work with. During my undergraduate studies I tutored chemistry and biology. I also taught 8th grade physical science in Prince George Virgina.
