The 2009-2010 school year will be my third year as a substitute teacher. I have worked with all levels of students, from special needs elementary to AP high school courses, and in both urban and suburban districts. I had some training as an educator in college but have lots of real world experience as well. I have a deep understanding of research strategies and love all of the social sciences. I also am a parent to a third grader who recently tested into her school's gifted program and have plenty of experience supplementing curriculum to encourage the accelerated learner.
I believe that no two students learn alike and the most important thing is to make sure students are having fun with learning. I am a National Merit scholar and hold a BS in Molecular/Cellular Biology and a BA in English from the University of Arizona, as well as a Master of Education (Secondary) from Arizona State University. After earning my BS and BA, I spent three years teaching English as a second language in Japan before returning to the States, where I taught at the secondary level for two years while earning my Master's. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is basic. I feel it is most important for a student to grasp the basics before they can move on to more complicated subject material. I also am a strong believer of parental involvement. A parent knows their children's learning patterns best. I like to use different approaches. Activities that are visually and mentally stimulting help to form a connection between the student and the lesson. It is important to me that each of my student's set and acheive goals.
As a high school student, I attended Tiffin University to gain college experience and credit earlier than expected.
