A Little Bit About Me...

I love helping and teaching children. I have given riding lessons to all ages of children for years, realizing there is no better feeling than helping children accomplish their goals. I would love to help children in any way I can to meet their academic goals, I know what it is like to have to study hard for what you want to accomplish. Being 25 I feel, and just being a graduate myself, I think can be a way to relate to the children and what they are trying to achieve. My drive for knowledge enabled me to complete three degrees by the age of 22. I have high grades in all my classes as well as the extra science and writing classes I take on the side. I have a AAST in environmental science and technology, a BA in marine science and environmental studies, and will have my BS in one quarter. As well as being a full time student except for the summertime I tutor people in need of a little extra help. I have tutors ages from 6-25 and people with disabilities as well. I am a very patient, hands-on style of tutor. I take the time and try to explain things to people who have a hard time understanding. I try to gage what the student is struggling with and also what they do understand, so I can quickly pinpoint their troubles and focus on the problem issue. Some kids need more explaining, others need a picture drawn out for them. I am good at finding what method people learn best with.
I graduated from the University of Washington last year with a BA in Journalism. I've also received an AA Degree from Highline Community College. My teaching style is the shrapnel method. I like to use a large variety of techniques - visual, auditory, games, etc - to achieve the same goal. This keeps interest up and allows me to narrow in on the method that is most valuable to a specific student.
I taught introductory zoology lab to freshman at Mississippi State University. Then I served in the Peace Corps where I taught daily 13 3 year olds to 15 year olds English, mathematics, and arts and crafts. I also taught basic library skills to all the elementary school classes.
