More About This Tutor...

I believe all students are capable of learning. It is the role of the educator to help students identify their strengths and provide them with the tools that will help them integrate new knowledge into existing schemas. I try to integrate metacognitive tools into content teaching to instill life long learning.
I have over 350 hours of experience working in middle school intensive reading classrooms, 180 hours in a 7th grade science room, completed an internship in a 7th and 8th grade science classroom, and volunteered at Naples Botanical Gardens. Starting in the fall I will be interning full time in a honors marine science class.

I like to make teaching fun! If a student is bored they aren't going to be putting 100% into their work. I also use a positive reward system and celebrate all achievement. Even if it is minor.
I have been working with kids of all ages for a long time. I love to see them learn and grow. That moment when they "get" something is magical! I spent the 2011-2012 school year teaching at a title 1 school in Collier County and have grown exponentially from it! I had several students in my class who needed special help, and half of my class were English language learners. These students have helped me to strengthen my skills and adapt to different student's styles.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is "Me, We, You". I will show the student how to work through the problem/concept, then we will do it together, then I will oversee and make corrections on the student's attempt to do it his/herself. I like to base my teaching off the student because no two students learn the same and implementing multiple tactics of learning is crucial.

I enjoy helping children learn. More than that, I enjoy helping them feel empowered and enjoy learning. When the child feels empowered, and is excited about what they can do, learning becomes fun. Whether working with turning past failures into success, or making high achievers soar to even greater heights, the process has to be 'tailored' to the child's particualar needs and personality. Together we make the difference for their future success.
I have nineteen years of experience teaching children of various ages and abilities. I have taught second through fifth grade in the public school system, as well as pre-school through high school as the owner/operator of my own tutoring company. I have been employed with the public school system since 1991, and during that time, I have been employed by other schools for private consulting and inservices in writing. A Little Bit About Me...

I use age and level appropriate methods to help each student best understand the materials being studied. I evaluate each individuals natural learning style; looker, listener, or mover, and use this to present materials in an understandable format that gives the student the best chance of success.
As a teacher, tutor, and parent, I have enjoyed years of experience finding creative teaching methods to help students understand difficult concepts where standard classroom methods failed. I truly enjoy helping students achieve their academic goals and feel good about their abilities to succeed.

I have been working with children for more than 20 years, as a tutor and mentor. My profession and academic education was in business and psychology, but my passion has always been working with children. For the last 7 years, I have worked as a substitute teacher, for Lee County Schools. And for the last 5 years, I have spent my summer months traveling throughout SE Asia, volunteering time in orphanages and schools, teaching the children English.
My teaching style totally depends on the student(s) that I am working with. Not all children learn at the same pace, nor do they all have the same attention span. That said, I find that applying the “token economy” approach, in getting the children to focus on the task, is very effective. If given time and patience, children are capable of accomplishing most anything.

I hold a middle school integrated curriculum certification. I am currently teaching 7th grade math, but have previously taught middle school social studies and science. Prior to beginning my teaching career I was the manager of my family's restaurant business, where I was in charge of training new employees about the computer system and the menu items. At the end of college I was a Teachers Assistant for a freshman level Political Science class which was taught by the head of the department at the university.
I try to keep students very active in my classroom. I vary my instruction between direct instruction, hands on learning and cooperative activities. I have completed the week long training on cooperative learning at the Kagan Summer Institute. We use cooperative activities in my class daily. I have also completed Quality Schools Training with the Lee County School Distric ... read more

My teaching style is best described as adaptive. We all learn differently, some more so by doing, others by seeing or listening, and others by thinking it through. Learning is a combination of processes, emphasizing what works best. For me, the approach is to use what works best for the student to learn what needs to be learned, with the underlying objective of the student learning how to learn - meaning a self-awareness of what works best for him or her. The tough learning is slugging it through the stuff that we just don’t seem to get or seems to have no value in our future lives. One book I’ve always liked is “The Memory Book” by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas for the varied approaches for using our brains.
My teaching experience has been both formal and informal. I’ve been a teaching assistant to college undergraduates, an instructor in management studies and also an i ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is a combination of basic, simple direct instruction and hands-on learning. I believe children learn best through active engagement when they are interested in the subject. I realize that not all students learn in the same way, or at the same pace. As my student, a child can expect a variety of differentiated instruction techniques to create a positive learning experience and meet their learning needs.
As a recent graduate of FGCU, I received top honors in my field of study, Early Childhood Education. This continues my experience as an educator, as I have taught at the pre-school level for 15 years. My teaching and life experiences uniquely qualify me for an engaging tutoring experience for your child. I have recently interned in two elementary schools resulting in great academic success for my students in reading and math. I understand the stress and compe ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

All through high school and college I was a tutor. I have taken numerous writing extensive courses. This qualifies me to tutor English. I have also taken many courses that concentrated on Social Studies. Science was always one of my favorite courses in high school, therefore I took a few science courses in college as well. I have previously tutored students in test preparation, and I have taken the FCAT myself. Math was another strong subject of mine, and I have also tutored students in this area as well.
I feel that I am a natural educator. I often find my self teaching people simple tasks at work, or being called upon by friends and family members to assist them, or their children with their homework. I like to keep learning fun and interesting for all students. I believe that if you invoke an emotional response, like happiness, when you are teaching something, the pupil is much ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have many years experience working with, tutoring, and advising children and young adults. I believe that children are very individual in their learning capabilities and can reach their fullest potential if they are given an appropriate and supportive environment to learn.
I graduated with a BS degree from the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. In the last year I have started tutoring children, mainly in elementary school subjects. Throughout my work history, I have had many opportunities to work with and advise children and young adults through my positions as a case worker, a tutor, and volunteer mentor. I currently work as a financial representative, where my primary focus is to complete a current financial analysis for new clients and help them develop a personal financial plan to meet their goals and objectives. I taught for 8 years in a Title 1 Elementary school in North Fort Myers. The population was and still is over 90% free and reduced lunch. I taught 4th and 5th grades for 4 years and then taught science as an exploratory to all of the students for 4 years. I developed my curriculum for all grade levels in science, connected them to the building block and Sunshine State Standards, and created assessments. Currently, I am teaching Life Science to 7th graders at a Cape Coral middle school which is 5 miles form my home. I taught Science for 6th, 7th and 8th ESE students who had learning disabilities there for two years and ESOL students last year.
I like to teach science because it gives me many opportunities to teach using my preferred styles. I like to use cooperative learning, have the students investigate questions, and use hands on activities with real world examples. I try to bui ... read more

I have been teaching for six years. I currently teach third grade at Edgewood Academy in Fort Myers, FL. I hold my professional teaching certificate in Florida and I am a highly qualified teacher. I am currently a doctoral student at Novasoutheastern University. The focus of my research is on reading.
I am a firm believer in research based teaching. I combine direct instruction with constructivist methods of teaching. I also take a humanistic approach to motivate my students to learn. I take the time to learn about my student's interests and background knowledge so I can tailor my instruction to each student's needs and interests as much as possible. I also believe in adding fun and humor to learning, which has made the learning experience a very positive one for my students.
