I have developed an interrogative style of teaching in which I seek to ask the right questions and guide the students to the correct conclusions. I have found this to be far more effective than simply lecturing. I also seek to connect illustrations from everyday life and current events to the course material (when it is fitting to do so). I seek to build rapport with each of my students and "meet them where they're at." I believe that the complimentary cards that I have received from my students indicate that this approach has been a blessing to them.
I have been blessed with several years of teaching experience in both Christian and public schools. I have had the opportunity to work with students from kindergarten through twelfth grade; this has provided me with valuable experience in working with each age group. I have also instructed adult foreign students in basic convers ... read more

As a graduate of Wellesley College, I continaully strived to do achieve a high level of excellence. One of my biggest regrets in life is that I didn't get a teaching certification while I was in college. It is a profession which I would truly love. I have an inate ability to deciper the way each student's mind absorbs knowledge and I am flexible enough in my methodology to adjust to the necessary path. Although my approach is always conctructivist, my teaching methods vary from child to child. I was raised in the urban decay of the oldest neighboorhood in the country, yet private-school educated. I feel this blend adds to my overall mentoring ability.

As I mentioned in the above paragraph, I meet the child where they are in their learning style. I can adapt to how they learn best and then use different activities and tools to again, "drive home" the concept of what the child may be struggling with. I love teaching anything!
When I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree in 2002, I accepted a job at a small school in upstate NY that needed a PE teacher. I quickly learned to just relax and "go with the flow" of how the students learned the material and what kind of different activities that we could do to "drive home" the concept of what we were studying. I also learned to be very flexible. I wore many many different hats that first year of teaching which has given me to experience I needed in my recent years of teaching. I am passionate about sports, athletics, history and teaching as a whole!
