As an experienced K-12 substitute teacher, my work extended from the inner city to the county schools. I had the opportunity to instruct students with various ability levels and learning styles. During the 2008-2009 school term I served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in a middle school working as tutor, special projects assistant, and mentor. I hold a BS degree in Sociology and expect to earn a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction in 2010. I have always loved working with children and can work with children of all levels due to growing up with an autistic younger brother. His disability has taught me to be patient and open-minded with all children. I understand that all children have a different way of learning and it may take time to identify a child's learning style. I am very observant and so I can quickly pick up on how a student will learn best. I understand that some children aren't fortunate enough to have a support system to help them through school and to take time to teach them. I think that children are the most vital asset to our society. We must pass on all the knowledge that we possibly can, and I have decided to dedicate my life to this endeavor.
