My comments on tutoring GMAT : I tutor the math portions of the test - the quantitative section and integrated reasoning. We review necessary math skills, and strengthen fundamentals so you are equipped for the data sufficiency questions, and I give you the tools needed to quickly arrive at answers without the calculator. I teach a way to read the word problems to correctly set up the question being asked. We work on timing as well, making sure you are solving only enough of the problem to answer the question. My goal is to connect with the student at THEIR level. We start by going over the basics of problem solving and work from there to foster independent thinking. I personally can say that I have learned the most & can recall the most from those teachers that I consider my favorites. I believe it is because they knew how to inspire and motivate me to achieve what I thought I couldn’t or didn’t want to do. Those early experience is the inspiration behind the way I teach/tutor and write. I once heard it stated that ‘no one cares how much you know until they know how much you care’. I have four semesters of calculus, numerous chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, statistics, finance, accounting, marketing, management, and liberal arts courses. I also have a temporary CT teaching certificate for secondary education math.
I believe any student is capable of learning any subject when they are taught in a gentle and patient manner. It is important to help the student gain confidence with the subject and to build his self-esteem.
