I worked as the department tutor for a first semester calculus based physics course at my university. I also graded undergraduate physics homework for second semester calculus based physics. Throughout my undergraduate education, I worked as a research during the summer and post graduation, I spent continued school for a year as a graduate student. I really enjoy ideas. One of my favorite things is to see someone make a connection for the first time between two ideas or concepts. I enjoy teaching through dialogue and conversation. I have a gift, I'm told, for analogies, and for explaining things in ways that enable people to understand new or complex ideas. My goal in teaching is always to help the students make personal connections with the material, and to show them how the "theoretical" topic of study intersects their life in a real, practical way.

I have taught classes in public administration, public policy and grant writing but also have taught both micro and macro economics, American government and basic web design.
I believe that effective teaching should stimulate critical thinking skills. I like to use the Socratic method of teaching by asking students questions. In my classes I frequently ask students .."what do you think?" as a means for them to share their ideas with other students and stimulate new ideas. Education should be more than rote memorization, but rather a gaining an understanding of concepts and being able to apply those concepts in a real world context.

I have become very familiar with the differentiated instruction model of teaching students. Each child has an individual way of learning and it is up to the teacher to discover that way and lead or drive instruction with that in mind. I am willing to test and analize each child and see what is best for them as far as learning to read. If a child likes what they are doing they will do it more. I usually am very curious as to why a child hates to read or do math. If I look closely, the answer usually falls real close to the answer of there is a difficulty with understanding it and no one has figured out what that is yet. I am the one that accepts that challenge and carries through that process of finding the best possible answers.
