More About This Tutor...

Coming from a large family and having a large family myself, I have always been around children of all ages and enjoyed working with kids to develop themselves and prepare them for a meaningful place in our society. I am very patient with children and will use different approaches to teach. I try very hard to install a love of learning and work hard to encourage a curiousity of any subject that interests them. I believe in a strong basis of arithmetic skills in younger grades. In the high school, I use real-world applications to develop problem-solving skills through the use of mathematics.
I was let go from a local company earlier this year. I have decided to make a career change and my goal is to teach math at the high school level. I have a year of college to be certified. I'm a full student at CCC, and will take the Pedagogy requirements at Elmira College. I intend ... read more

Even as a student i helped my fellow students to understand and grasp the subjects they were having difficulty with. i can generaly spinn the information into a subject matter that interests the individual or just explain it in an easier to understand manner, offted they just get lolst in the language of teaching. i minnored in math, and majorred in science and agriculture in high school, ansd took veternary technology in colledge this involved mostly biologies and lab technigues.
i have never taught professionaly, but have assisted fellow students. the methods i useed to help them were ither to incorporate the subject matter into a sumject that they had a personal interest in, or manny time i found that they just didnot understand the language of the subject so i reexplained it in simpler terms and they got it just fine.

A Little Bit About Me...

For as long as I can remember, I have been a natural teacher. My children say that I can never take them on an outing without making a "school" trip out of it. I love learning, and desire to share that excitement with others, to see them become life-long learners. I believe that all children can learn, although in different ways. Individualized learning and small group learning is what I enjoy most. I'm patient and work well with children. I'm good at seeing where a student's need is, and then adapting the teaching level and style to match so that he/she can achieve, and be encouraged to move forward. I desire to see students reach their potential, and I believe that that potential is often greater than is evident at first glance.
My years of teaching have been greatly varied—traditional/ non-traditional, in the States /overseas, regular/special needs students, children/adults, a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience with helping others in math has been very enjoyable. Having worked at a university learning center as a tutor, I have helped students in all levels of math courses. My studies during college focused on specifically math where I have completed my bachelor's degree of science with a major in math. Having experienced a wide variety of math courses, I have found many approaches of ways to learn math material. These methods were applied when helping others to learn quickly.
Working with students in math, I like to ask what the student enjoys doing while not in school. I like to relate this to the math to make it more interesting as well as making it fun. This will also make the student more comfortable and lowers the stress level. In lower level courses in basic math up to middle level courses such as algebra, the methods used are integrating the content into the unsolved ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experience ranges from serving as a special education itinerant teacher (SEIT) for young children with special needs to teaching high school English. I am certified in PreK-6 elementary education, English, and special education. While I spent the majority of my teaching career bolstering language skills, specifically reading comprehension and writing, I also taught algebra and biology to high school students as a resource room teacher. Equipped with improved study skills, students have strategies that make them more successful in understanding more sophisticated content.
All children and adolescents can successfully acquire and process new information. Many students encounter difficulty learning in a traditional school setting because the large class sizes do not afford the teacher the time to learn about each individual and attend to his or her specific needs.
