My goal is to help your child achieve success. I explain real-life applications of the subject (i.e., metric system--repair of foreign cars.) I encourage questions and dialogue. I use praise when warranted but am firm on deadlines and honesty. Aware of attention span, I take appropriate breaks or switch to another subject. I remind him to read and follow directions and to check his work over before he hands it in. After graduating college I taught elementary K-8th grade in NYC. I taught for one year and decided to live Paris, France teaching English. I lived in Paris, France for 1.5 years then moved to Rome, Italy, again teaching English. My experiences were wonderful as I met people who really enjoyed learning English and needed it for work. After 6 months I returned to the states and taught at a Junior High School on the Lower eastside of NYC. I left teaching after 10 years to market computers. My skills as an educator served me well and I did extremely well. After approximately 8 years I decided I wanted to go back to teaching, and have been teaching the use of computers. Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work.
