A Little Bit About Me...

After having raised 4 children, I know that each child has a different learning style. One may be very able to understand abstract thoughts and teaching styles while the other may not. Therefore, tutoring must be done on a very individual basis. I believe it is the teacher's responsibility to listen and observe each child so that the appropriate teaching style can be effectively used for each child in an effective and relaxed manner.

While going to college at the UW – Eau Claire, I've been a math and statistics tutor for the past four years. I've also been a Teacher’s Assistant for a statistics Professor where my duties consisted of running review sessions for the class before quizzes and exams along with grading homework and exams. I have completed four statistics courses dealing with different areas of statistics. I also have experience in one-on-one tutoring. As a student I enjoyed most the teachers who facilitated learning. Teachers who lead students on a road of discovery as they learned, who taught me how to think and not what to think. I model my teaching after the same style I enjoyed as a student. Helping a student discover for themselves the material not only educates them but fosters a passion for the subject at hand. Rote memory has it's place and is essential, but when a student becomes passionate about a subject, then the door is open for them to excel at it. I love working with kids of all ages. All children are unique and they all learn in different ways. I believe its the teachers responsibllity to understand how their students learn best and then help communicate the curriculum to them in a way that they will best uderstand and retain that knowledge.
I was homeschooled for the majority of my education which enabled me to assit my younger brothers and sisters in their studies. I taught a few Science classes including botony and a study of birds and have tutored in highschool math as well. I played volleyball, took 3 years of piano, and was a member of Chior as well. I have 24 years of teaching in the elementary grades. I taught in a one-room for seven years. I taught fifth grade for 11 years, and second grade for six years. My 316 WI Reading Teachers license allows me to diagnose your child's reading problems and create a program to advance their reading skills.
