My comments on tutoring ACT : I have a unique program for preparing students for the math portion of the ACT. I use diagnostic testing to help identify areas that need to be addressed, and provide practice using ACT practice tests to strengthen skills and build confidence.

I have taught at the high school and middle school for 17 years, in the Mequoun-Thiensville an Grafton School Districts. I was a school counselor for 5 years (middle school) and am currently an associate middle school principal. I retired from the Army Reserve in 2006 with 20 years of service. I have been tutoring for over 9 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

During my research-based M.Sc. study in Microbiology, I TA'ed three undergraduate courses (General Biology & Introduction to Microbiology). Over the years, I have become more aware of myself so that I can learn more efficiently. I scored well on my ACT (33) and my GRE (the grad school equivalent of the SAT - 690 for verbal, 740 for quantitative), and was able to attend well-regarded schools for my scientific training. I have many people to thank for my writing and analytical abilities, especially M. Nunley from Middlebury College.

A Little Bit About Me...

I go through all the concepts with the individual pertaining to what portion of statistics they are studying at that time. I will then walk them through a couple of examples demonstrating how to properly obtain the correct answer. I will follow that up by asking them to do a problem without any direct instruction from me. I will watch them work on the problem to assure they are working on it properly. If any mistakes are made I will politely point them out as the individual is working. Finally, I will ask them to work on problems completely on their own and I will check their answers when they are done. I feel the only way to learn statistics, or any math for that matter, is through repetition and working on a lot of problems.

I love working with kids of all ages. All children are unique and they all learn in different ways. I believe its the teachers responsibllity to understand how their students learn best and then help communicate the curriculum to them in a way that they will best uderstand and retain that knowledge.
I was homeschooled for the majority of my education which enabled me to assit my younger brothers and sisters in their studies. I taught a few Science classes including botony and a study of birds and have tutored in highschool math as well. I played volleyball, took 3 years of piano, and was a member of Chior as well. I love teaching in a hands on style in which the student not only has an algorithm of how to solve a specific problem, but has a thorough understanding of the concepts behind the algorithm. I enjoy having analogies or hands-on activities to demonstrate the concepts. I believe that many times people understand the basic concepts from physics in their daily life, but are frightened by equations. Using analogies or hands-on examples initially reinforces their knowledge and increases their confidence which decreases the fear of equations. Besides reduces fear, it improves their ability to share complex concepts with others in simpler terms.

I have degrees in civil engineering and have been in the workforce for 17 years. This has given me a great background in math and science. Since 2008 I have taught math courses at Lakeshore Technical College. I teach Math with Business Applications and Algebra for General Chemistry.
