I currently work in a PreK-12 School setting as a Certified School Library Media Specialist. I am responsible for teaching Prek-6th grade library/research lessons. When I am not teaching I am monitoring 7-12 students who are utilizing the library media cnter. I manage two library spaces, am the primary purchaser for books, technologies, and databases, and work closely with the administration team to meet and exceed curricular goals. I earned Associate’s degrees in Liberal Arts and Accounting, as well as a Certificate in Office Technology. I had the highest GPA for both the Certificate and the AS in Accounting at the same time. I then achieved my Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting from Excelsior College in 1996. I have worked in the Accounting field for over 25 years, moving up from an Accounting clerk to Staff Accountant to my current position as Controller in a small insurance agency. I Love to work with children to transfer knowledge and help them learn difficult to understand concepts. Currently, I volunteer 3 hours every Sunday to teach 6th through 9th graders. We start with a lesson (eg. ratio, percent, geometry, algebra, or probability), then move to a quiz or test. Finally, we end with a Math Jeapordy game or a Math Millionare Game. Students are excited to do the Jeopardy and win a prize. I believe learning should be fun and we use a lot of materials from the internet. I am a recent graduate of SUNY Potsdam. I received my bachelors degree in physics, and minored in mathematics. I also hold two associate degrees, one in Liberal Arts and another in Math & Science. I feel it is important to understand what is different and unique about every student. Not all students will learn in the same way, nor will they find their desire to learn in the same way.
