I am a 16 year old high school student taking my third year of Spanish, Psychology/Sociology, English, U.S History, Chemistry, and Math Reasoning. School wasn't one of my favorite places to go especially when I wasn't doing so hot in some of my classes. But then I found fun and easy ways to study. It turned out that I actually enjoyed going to school afterwards and making it a goal to get good grades. That is my goal with potential students. I want them to enjoy studying for school. Yes it may be a lot of work but the student can make it easier by using flashcards or writing down the problem until it sticks into their, whatever helps them. I want to help them to see how easy school can actually be for them. At first studying may be frustrating but the more the student and I practice, the more fun and less stressful the subject will become.

High school/college physics, math and Engineering tutoring

I have always enjoyed personal tutoring and TA experiences in the past. I firmly believe that teaching is a privilege, rather than just a responsibility. Teaching is about inspiring thinking and encouraging learning. As your tutor i will set goals for students to grow, and at the same time, allow the students to reasonably set their own long-term and short-term goals. I enjoy working with people in a relaxed friendly environment. I enjoy teaching, sharing and practicing mathematics, science and engineering. Schedule is flexible.

More About This Tutor...

I am a few years out of high school, and I've taken several college classes. My AP knowledge spans almost every subject. I can help with almost all high school level classes and below. The various sciences are probably my best subjects, however my knowledge of Biology is fairly limited. I have tutored a few High School Freshman before in a program called "Senior Mentoring" I have also helped out a few family friends to get the grade to graduate.
This really depends on the subject, however, I like to do drills to keep basic skills sharp, and to learn new skills. Each student is different, and will need slightly adjusted methodology. I'm also very open to suggestion.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began tutoring as a volunteer in High School. I have since graduated Magna Cum Laude in less then 4 years earning two bachelor degrees in Political Science and Philosophy. I have recently finished my first year of law school in the top 30% of the class. My experience in Political Science, Philosophy, and law have set me apart in grammar, punctuation, and both formal and creative writing. I have most recently privately tutored a high school student in English, Literature, and Writing.
I realize that each student learns differently and thus should be approached differently. My teaching style is to exert patience and positive reinforcement for each style of learning. I believe that tutoring is the missing link in a child's education, and that providing structure and follow up is the best method.

My teaching style involves fun and an active student. Self-discovery is the best way to learn and retain knowledge. I see myself as the facilitator; I give my students the tools, so they can figure out problems on their own and become more self-reliant. I want learning to be fun, involving games, healthy competition and active learning, so students become life long learners. Having said that, I have high expectations for students' abilities and behavior. I have always been able to build rapport and a mutual respect with students of all ages and backgrounds. That trust makes the learning environment more impactful.

First and foremost, it is important to me and, especially for my students, that we have excellent rapport. I want to know their academic goals and what is most important to them as we establish our tutoring relationship. I do everything in my power to let my students know that I am there for them, that I care about how they learn best, and that I want regular feedback on what they are feeling successful about and what it is that may need more reenforcement or practice. I then adjust my teaching strategies based on their learning needs.

I have experience working with students of all ages and I thoroughly enjoy the challenge each person brings. I treat each student according to his/her needs and I look for the most effective ways he/she learns. I ask the student questions that lead to his/her discovery of the process, steps and answer to the problem. With this method the student has the satisfaction of resolving the problem, encourages him/her to continue on to more difficult ones, and gives him/her the confidence to do his/her best!

A Little Bit About Me...

I love children and have a passion for teaching, learning and student success. I believe one of the first responsibilities as a teacher is to discover the learrning style of each child; visual, auditory or kinesthetic. Knowing the individual learning style of each child, I am able to enhance my teaching style and curriculum and link learning with fun.
I have been blessed with over twenty years of teaching experience. I am highly experienced in phonics-based instuction. My passion is in teaching reading. It brings such joy to my heart as I see the smile on the faces of my students who have begun to put letters and and sounds together to form words. I have had the wonderful opportunity of tutoring stuggling classroom students during the traditional school year, as well as running a summer tutoring program; providing enhancement in phonics, reading and math.

My first visit is just an assessment of where the student began to get lost regardless of the age or level. As the oldest of five children, my 15+ years of tutoring experience includes helping my siblings in their homework when we were growing up. I have also taught English for two years at a private Junior/Senior girls' high school in Kyoto, Japan; mentored the English Speaking Society for the high school students; and, more recently, trained three content editors at Intel, as well as developed training classes for HP. Although I did well in math and science during my school years (my mother was a math and science teacher), I consider writing and English grammar my strengths. Scholastically, I am proud of having been a four-year scholarship recipient and of finishing the technical writing certificate program with a 4.0 GPA.
