A Little Bit About Me...

As a Syracuse University graduate, I studied at the Maxwell School and the Whitman School of management. Maxwell is recognized worldwide for its expertise in public policy and economics. I have taken 3 courses in statistics, 1 in calculus and 1 econometric course which is statistics and calculus combined. Also, because I was enrolled in 2 separate programs I have taken 15 credits of natural science and 12 credits of english. I feel well polished in many areas of academia and I work well with students, considering there are 8 teachers in my family and I've been around the teaching environment for quite some time.

During my sophomore year as an undergraduate at the University of Florida, I spent my spare time tutoring/mentoring a third grade student at a local Gainesville elementary school. We spent ample time going over reading and math assignments. I also career mentored eighth grade students in the Richland County School District in Columbia, SC. I have learned strong writing and basic mathematical skills at my current position as a media planner.
My teaching style is parallel to my learning style. I appreciate explanations that are thorough and tailored to my interests. I've learned that concepts and ideas are easier to understand if they refer back to something I can relate to. I aspire to become someone a child can look up to, as well as understand. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is a combination of techniques I found successful during my educational studies. First, I believe the teacher has to be passionate and have a true love for what he or she is doing; this is passion, or lack thereof, is evident when interacting with a student. Second, patience is of upmost importance. In my experience, nothing inhibits learning as much as a rushed or pressured feeling when one is trying to learn. Finally, it is critical to find a way for the student to relate to the material in a way they understand. Each person is different and the teaching style should reflect that; not everyone fits nicely into a cookie cut template of learning. Every person has the potential to learn anything as long as the opportunity is fairly presented – as a parent of a special needs child, this is something I know very well.

I can help and be very effective in most subject areas for elementary. With regards to MS & HS I would limit my tutoring to areas of English, Social Studies, Economics, and Business. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a professional singer, actress and dancer who has taught throughout my 15 year career. I truly love teaching, especially in a one-on-one or very small group setting. Currently I teach private lessons in: piano, voice and acting. I also teach small-group: Piano, Acting, Choir, Learn to Read Music, Creative Movement, Pilates, Boot Camp, Kick Boxing. I also work with the local home school community as a 'tutor' for math and English.
I believe in mentoring. It does take a few times for the student (young and old) to understand that I cannot teach them anything. I can present information to them and attempt to inspire them to learn, but they are the ones who ultimately teach themselves.
