Chemistry/ Health Administration Experience

I have a BS in Chemistry. I am a very analytical person, science and math come very easily. I scored a 1400 on the SAT (750 Math) so I am eager to help those who want to improve on their score. I am in my last semester of obtaining a Master of Health Administration degree so I have the ability help anyone with the business/administrative side of the specialized industry. I have played guitar since the 7th grade and have performed for many charity concerts during the beginning of my undergraduate career. I would be best suited if a teenager wanted to learn guitar/vocals, especially if interested in rock (any subgenre).

More About This Tutor...

I tutored Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Biology and Chemistry while I was pursuing both of my degrees. Not only was I a tutor, but I also sought tutoring for myself! I feel that tutorial sessions can help students get a better understanding of a subject outside of daily classroom lectures. The student gets that one on one time that they may not always receive in a classroom. Each student has a different degree of learning and that's what makes us all unique. I believe that "patience is a virtue" and would make every attempt to be one of the best tutors that you have known. Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to being of service to you soon.

I do not consider myself a teacher but a helper. In my experience, the Socratic method in which I pose probing questions that unlock the student's knowledge is the strongest approach. A student's retention of the material is strongest when the student can teach it, and that's what I aim for. I break down any material the student doesn't understand into terms that are easier to comprehend. Preparedness is expected on the part of the student. I am not a substitute for independent study, and the sessions should not consist of doing homework. I am a resource best used when students have an understanding of what they do need help with.
I have four years of experience as a tutor that I obtained throughout my college experience. Tutoring is a personal joy of mine as I witness students who I've worked with succeed in their academics. It has been the most fulfilling job I've had, and ... read more

Over the past few months I have been involved with substitute teaching in Richland School District 2. Since being involved I have gotten very much involved in every aspect of teaching. I have been requested at serveral of the district schools because of the way I respond to being in the classroom and working with children of age grades and ages. I am very excited about being in the schools on a daily basis and plan to take things a step further and pursue a full time teaching position in the upcoming school through an accrediated university program.
I feel as though I am highly qualified and competitive for a teaching position because of my abilities to relate to children of all ages. My philosophy of teaching is based on my threefold belief that the overall mission of an educator is to promote positive learning, ignite enthusiasm for learning, and provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Teaching methods should be inventive, interactive, student-driven, and receptive to a variety of learning styles. This requires active participation from both the students and the teacher. The specific approaches I feel are most beneficial are inquiry-based and experiential learning. This engages the students in tangible exercises that encourage optimal learning and retention.
I have a B.S. in Marine Science and Biology,as well as a chemistry minor. My experience is summarized below: SoundWaters, Environmental Educator: Responsibilities included teaching environmental education programs alone and in team-teaching situations to students in preschool th ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working and being with children. I believe that all children learn new things in their own way. I am very patient and out-going. My main goal is to motivate and provide the best teaching possible.
I have been pursing my degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of South Carolina. I chosen to take a hiatus from the University so that I can gain more experience working with young children in an educational setting. During my time at the University I gained valuable knowledge and experience with developing lesson plans, assisting teachers and interacting with young children. I want to use my academic experience and love for children and their parents. I am also looking for an environment to increase my knowledge and grow professionally. I also will be receiving my Associates Degree in Arts, May of 2010.
