My form of teaching is such that it involves the students more than the tutor. I encouraged the student to be able to solve problems on their own. Call me when there is a problem that the student needs help. I love to know what part of the questions they don’t understand and help them to understand. I also see how to apply what I have learned to original problems because I see connections and hold a deeper understanding of the material. My double major in Chemistry and Biochemistry with a mino in Mathematics was full of its fair share of difficult material, and I was almost always able to help my peers, as well as younger students, through their problems.

The most important thing to remember when teaching a child new concepts is patience. All children learn skills in different ways. Some catch on quickly, others need more time. Even the way in which you demonstrate how a problem is solved can make a difference. I usually try several methods for solving problems rather than insist that they learn the traditional methods only. The little bit of extra time spent giving them the optional techniques could make a world of difference in their educational success.
As a parent of two school-aged children I have had the oppurtunity to learn about the newest teaching methods employed by teachers at this time. We often work together on math and science.
