A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very hands on learner so I like to get students actively involved in their learning. However, I understand that some people like taking notes and are more of a visual learner. I am very capable of approaching tutoring in this manner if that is what the student prefers.
I am a junior at Rollins College studying marine biology. I have many years of experience in the sciences with my main focus on biology/marine biology. I took AP Biology in high school and have spent the past three years furthering my education in marine biology. I am also proficient at Spanish. A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a student at Wright State University; I will have a Bachelor’s degree in biology at the end of summer 2010. I have taken several classes in Cell biology, Molecular biology, Animal biology and Plant biology. I have also had a year of anatomy and a year of physics. The research papers, lab reports, analytical reports and essays that I have written have given me a comprehensive vocabulary and considerable grammatical skills. A Little Bit About Me...

In my 6 years of teaching experience I’ve come to find out that there is no such thing as a “stupid question.” Each child or adult has a specific way of learning according to their own character. That’s the reason some are faster to learn mathematical concepts while others are faster in literary concepts. I believe in going slow and asking my students to explain what they’ve learned in their own words. If they can do this easily it means they have mastered the concepts. I usually encourage pre-reading before tutoring sessions. A student who has read the chapter ahead will absorb information more easily than one who has not read ahead.

I have a friendly teaching style; I use a lot of sense of humor. But, this takes a lot of hard work to achieve. The reason I am able to teach French grammar in a non-intimidating, almost very relaxing way, is because I had to master it. I have a way of getting closer to my students and to their difficulties by having the ability to relate almost every chapter I introduce to my personal experiences. And, I have anecdotes almost about any new topic I present. I am a story teller in that sense. Sometime my students beg me to tell them more anecdotes. I tell them if they want to hear more stories, they have to do this, or that. And almost always agree with smiles that seem to say “you got us!”
