My comments on tutoring Computer : I currently teach technology classes twice a week at a private school. I am very experienced at working with children on computer skills.

I have been a Special Education Teacher for 15 years and an administrator for 5 years. I have taught at both the elementary, intermediate and high school levels. I have worked with students who have been severely cognitively disabled and those that have had multiple attention and behavioral concerns. I am very patient and have been able to create systems to provide structure to keep kids on track. I always want children to know what to expect and have a structure in which to be successful.
I believe my patience and creativity allows children to feel comfortable with their own learning needs. I work with them and help them find their unique learning style. We then build on that style to build their confidence and ability. All children can learn once we find their unique learning "channel".

Spanish, Math and Reading tutor.

I have tutored on and off for the past 12 years. I have tutored people from 5th grade to age 50. I have much experience tutoring any type of math up to Algebra II. I have also tutored in Spanish on numerous occasions. I have lived in Mexico and Costa Rica which has really made my Spanish skills solid.
I prefer one on one or a small group no larger than five. I am patient and appreciate questions the student has so that I may better serve them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that learning and success are possible for all children, but they are the result of time and patience. I feel high expectations are important, yet I'm careful not to frustrate the lower achievers. If a teacher encourages learning and makes it worthwhile, I believe that the learning process will flourish. Children learn in different ways. Because all children deserve an equal chance to learn , it's my responsibility to meet these learning styles to the best of my ability. This is done by presenting material in a variety of ways, as well as incorporating hands-on experiences as much as possible. I think children will retain material better if they are able to experience it.
At the end of my undergraduate work at UW-Oshkosh, I was asked to intern for the Baraboo School District in place of student teaching . Working with fourth graders was the beginning of my life as an ed ... read more

I have over 25 years of experience as an accounting/finance professional, primarily in the service industry. In addition, I spent 7 years as an adjunct faculty member teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses. This was a very rewarding experience and I received an “excellence in teaching” award from the College. My passion is helping others become successful in this field of study as it is relevant in most careers in varying ways.
I enjoy helping students learn by understanding what they want to accomplish. I am a firm believer in the sayings “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, but teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. My experience in managing people is helpful to my teaching style as I recognize everyone has different strengths, weaknesses, and goals. The approach I use is determined by the student and their preferred learning style. My ... read more

First, I am a life long learner and love reading. I have a masters in Library Science and have worked for the past 2 years as a reference librarian where I frequently answered questions, worked with patrons one on one, taught ACT prep and computer classes. Previous to working at the public library, I volunteered tutoring elementary and high school students in grammar, composition, and mathematics.
I enjoy helping people find and understand information. When teaching, I like to encourage my students to find their own path and reasoning to the answer. I encourage supervised and structured trial and error where the student tries different methods to finding the answer. This nurtures the excitement of discovery and the joy of learning something new.

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout college, I consistently worked as a tutor or mentor, specifically with minority populations. Upon graduation, I joined Teach for America and taught high school English in rural North Carolina. Since my tenure in TFA, I have taught English to students in Mexico, substitue taught for 2 years at a Waldorf school in La Crosse, WI, and currently tutor and mentor students as I attend graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Cumulatively, including extended substitute teaching situations, I have taught all grade levels 1-12 in various subjects. I would describe my teaching style as ecclectic. By this I mean that I discern which style or strategy would best accomdodate the needs of the particular child, based on their learning style. Once the child's learning style is distinguished, I would tailor my lessons/tutoring to that particular style.

I enjoy helping students work through tough problems by allowing them to make mistakes and then rework the problem a couple of times the correct way. Since this is my area of expertise, I am able to come up with examples on the fly that will target the areas most troublesome to the student. Mathematics is a field that requires repetition but making that repetition as interesting as possible is a fun challenge. I do not wish to be a teacher by profession but I do enjoy helping individuals or small groups with science and mathematics.
I have formally tutored with Madison College on two occasions lasting a year. I was also Tutoring throughout my time at Edgewood on a drop in basis with any students that came to the math department and could not reach a professor. I have a BS in Mathematics and doing math at all levels is fun for me.

In my Masters in Teaching program we are learning about differentiation and working to find the best vehicle by which to present information to students. For example, if a student has a talent and passion for music, perhaps setting some of their social studies and science materials to song will help them better absorb the information. Also, the best way to create connections in students minds is to have them learn and then create something representing their learning. Perhaps they learn about an era of history and then they act out a scene that may have happened, or they visually represent a science concept. I also am a very organized person with good study habits that I can model for your student and help them put into practice.
I am currently in school for my Masters in Teaching. At the completion of my program, I will be certified to teach grades one through eight. I have sp ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I'm a Mechanical Engineering graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I’m fluent in English, Spanish and am conversant in German. I work as a Research and Teaching Assistant in the Engineering department and twice a year I lead a discussion section during a one-week course in Polymers for undergrads at the Institute of Polymer Technology (LKT) in Erlangen-Germany. All these duties have changed my perspective on education and shaped my teaching approach.
I constantly compare the perspective I get when I stand in front of a classroom with my own experience as a student. I find it rewarding when I see my students focused and it intrigues me how the dynamic of my lecture influences their performance. I have applied this style while teaching in engineering and in other tutoring in Spanish as a second language that I have done. I enjoy the most teaching to children becaus ... read more
