Social Studies and Creative Writing (English)

I like to challenge people to think outside of the box. Although I know it is important to know how to take tests and write papers appropriately, I also know that showing skills that go above and beyond, is what makes a student stand out. My teaching style is such that students are taken and made active learners and not just as recipients of knowledge. Students have to own their learning. Students are encouraged to come up with the answers by leading them toward the answer and this involves using past experiences and knowledge leart earler instead of being given the answers. Collaborative learning is encouraged in my classes, because I believe that students can learn from each other.

A Little Bit About Me...

After I received my degree in Elementary Education, I was a substitute teacher in IA for one year. I then worked, taught and advised at a small private college in Iowa. I have also owned and operated a daycare in my home for over three years. Currently have have spent the past two years as a substitute teacher for the Buffalo, MN school district. This is a job I love for the simple fact that I have variety everyday. It is also a great way to stay up to date on all subject matter. I am also in the process of earning my Master's Degree in Education.
