Math,Test Prep (SAT,GRE,ACT,SSAT)-Expert Tutoring at one go

I believe that solving a problem shouldn’t be the only goal but understanding the concept behind that is very important. If the basics of any student is well built up then he can grasp anything easily and would always have the courage to face and solve even the toughest of the problems. So making the student realize that what he is facing isn't a problem but a challenge makes the problem look much easier and changes the entire perspective of that student towards that subject.
I have been tutoring school students since the past five years and possess outstanding knowledge and skill of providing customized tutoring to the students as per their needs. I worked as a SAT,ACT & GRE math tutor at Marconi’s Institute,India and have tutored students who achieved great results in the math/quantitative part of the tests. I have got an experience of tutoring Math school (K-12th) students of mo ... read more

SAT - Math is one of my top subjects! I have a no-nonsense approach to SAT. It's more like a game than anything else, and I teach the student how to win. The material is limited by various constraints, and it is important to concentrate on the kinds of questions that are used. It is also mainly a multiple-choice test, which introduces many ways to get the answers. i scored 796 on the math SAT, mainly because I knew how to take the test, and I teach students all the tricks.

I am patient and supportive, but persistent. Each student's mind works differently, and I work tirelessly to find the best way to present material to every child or adult. I have a varied background, not just in the academic world, and I feel I can find the right way to relate to each individual. I try to be somewhat informal, but I recognize the times when a little extra emphasis on the need to really concentrate is necessary.
I have logged over 5,000 hours of tutoring in the last four years. I have worked for a game company, which taught me how to approach tests as a contest between student and test-maker, and my extensive background as a writer gives me practical experience when it comes to teaching English and related subjects. My competence in math has always been obvious, as my 796 score (maximum 800) on the math SAT will attest. But most important: I love to teach any child ... read more

SAT - Math is one of my top subjects!

If a student has interest and confidence, she or he can learn anything! I am enthusiastic about what I teach, and I let students take the lead in solving problems to build independent skills and confidence. I am also a firm believer in understanding HOW things work, not just THAT they work--I combine problem-solving strategies with an understanding of why those strategies make sense.
I'm a recent graduate from Brown University, with experience tutoring at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Math and Biology are my favorite things to teach--I love the subject matter and I love to see it "click" with students. In math, I received an 800 score on the SAT, and a score of 5 on each the Calculus AB and BC exams. I also tutored algebra as a high school student. I'm currently studying up on everything from Trig to Calculus II so that I can take a Multivariable Calculus c ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My first experience as a teacher came in high school when I held a part-time job at a Kumon Math and Reading Center. As an undergraduate student at Columbia University I held several after school tutoring positions, some paid and some volunteer. Upon graduation I decided to join Teach For America. For the past year and a half I have been teaching high school mathematics in rural Hawaii while concurrently pursuing a master of education in teaching degree from the University of Hawaii. Next fall I will be entering the MBA program at the MIT Sloan School of Management, but I will always remain interested in teaching.
I would describe my teaching style as simple and laid back. I pride myself on my ability to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere that allows students to focus on learning. In addition, many of my high school students, as well as peer teachers who I have tutored for t ... read more

I wanted to get a broad education when looking at colleges and applied only to 5 year, double degree programs. A young, analytically oriented program in urban planning attracted my attention, so I enrolled in the City and Regional Planning Program at Cornell University. Being a teaching assistant started as a way to help fund my graduate education, but soon became a source of achievement and considerable satisfaction at being able to pass along skills and information throughout my years at Cornell. With my Masters in hand, I took a position as Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa, where I taught analytical and workshop courses in city planning for four years.
My formal teaching experience is with young adults at the graduate level as a Teaching Assistant and as an Assistant Professor. As a TA my style was collegial. I was learning and teaching at the same time. I tri ... read more

As an undergraduate I had the privilege of experiencing an elite liberal arts education. I obtained a double degree in geology and physics, through which I learned mathematical and problem solving techniques and also gained substantial scientific research and writing skills. I worked as a teaching assistant in both departments aiding in laboratory exercises, offering weekly homework help sessions and grading assignments. More recently, over the last 4 months, I have been working with my fourteen-year-old sister on algebra and this work has culminated in a substantial increase in her Independent School Entrance Examination scores.
My core teaching belief is that anyone is capable of learning any subject. For advanced topics, it is necessary for students to master the fundamentals first and this is the primary job for most teachers. Frankly, mastering the fundamentals can be bor ... read more

My teaching/tutoring philosophy: I am able to effectively help students by getting to know their learning style and strengths as well as areas that they need to improve in or have learning gaps in. I engage students by using real world examples and showing concrete representations of mathematical concepts. I quickly hone in on how my students think mathematically so that I can teach them using ideas, methods and strategies that make sense to them. Most importantly, I believe that everyone can learn mathematics with the right instruction. Where appropriate, I use technology in instruction, including graphing calculators, software and Internet resources.
I hold a teaching license in Mathematics (grades 5 - 12). I have a B.S. in Mathematics with a Specialization in Computer Science and an M.Ed. degree in Mathematics Curriculum and Instruction. I have taught mathematics in bo ... read more
