I have many years of experience tutoring and counseling students at all grade levels ( K-12). I have tutored in community-based programs as well as many years with the Los Angeles Unified School District. I have worked with a variety of students from many diverse backgrounds. I am able to communicate in Spanish at a conversational level and can read and understand written Spanish at an intermediate level. I am a creative, patient teacher. I know that everyone learns differently, so I try to come up with many different ways to explain a concept. I love to see the sudden understanding in a student's eyes when they finally understand a difficult concept. This is what makes teaching an addictive and highly fulfilling activity for me.
During my undergraduate years, I often found myself tutoring fellow students. Eventually I got a job working for the math and science tutoring center on campus. I tutored students in my own classes and others, and I also helped teach a vertebrate anatomy lab. I am currently a Master's student in biology, and while biology is my field, I am also an accomplished writer. I feel comfortable helping students in a variety of fields, especially basic mathematics, science, and writing.

As a student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo I was interested in English education, especially in terms of helping students improving their reading and writing skills. I followed this interest by tutoring at the university writing lab, as well as doing frequent one-on-one tutor sessions with students in need. At the end of each quarter I conducted private, one-on-one counseling sessions with the goal of helping students pass Cal Poly's Graduation Writing Requirement.
