As a Mathematics major, I have the drive to solve problems. I have been tutoring for seven years and when I'm not doing it, I miss it. I enjoy helping students 'solve their problems' by teaching them how to approach each problem or equation and reach the end solution. I am a student from Rutgers University pursuing double major in Electrical and Computer Engineer. As an engineer, I have taken all the Calculus courses and also on top of that required Chemistry and Physics. I was awarded Most passionate about Mathematics award and also was named young scholar of new jersey.
As an Engineer in making I go through this process everyday where sometimes I have to learn and sometimes I have to teach. Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. In my experiences, I have found the best way to fascilitate the learning of mathematics is through visual instruction via a whiteboard and/or blackboard. After the student sees an example of a problem done, I like to sit down with the tutee and have them walk me through the problems to make sure they have a good understanding of both the way to do the problem as well as a stron conceptual understanding of the material.
