I love learning math and science and I enjoy sharing the same love of learning with my students. I like seeing the look on their face when they really get it! Students requiring tutoring are sometimes in academic distress and have anxiety therefore I have a more easy going and patient style of tutoring than most. I believe I'm an effective tutor because I remember the exact same difficulties and questions I had as a student and can relate to their frustration. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Journalism, I was a staff reporter at a daily newspaper in High Point, NC, where I covered Guilford County's public school system and wrote feature stories. During that time, I volunteered as a tutor to a first-grade student who needed help with reading and writing. I am passionate about teaching. I prefer teaching foreign language through a hands-on approach. Everyone is capable of learning, we just have to find their learning style. With foreign language, I use flashcards, simple songs and interesting stories to incorporate the language. My goal is to get the student to retain the language, not just memorize it. I show my students that they can benefit in careers and life through the knowledge of a second language.
