I began as a teacher's assistant in 1994 for 4 years before returning to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Ed. I obtained endorsements in high school math and reading. My teaching experience began at a school for girls who are court ordered to residential treatment for behaviors. Unfortunately, after over 8 years in this position, I was laid off. Since then I have been employed by Sylvan Learning Center, a tutoring facility where we work with student of various ages and abilities. We assist these students with reading, math (both beginning to high school levels), study skills and test prep. I have taught various levels of math - elementary through some college - reading, speech, computer applications, science, history, and English. I love working with children and helping fulfill their potential. I like at children as water that must be directed in the right direction. I will do this my trying to find research validated methods of teaching that teaching to all the learning styles. If the child does not learn the first time I will try again and again until they have got it. As a teacher with dyslexia I felt that I was unable to teach reading to my students. I went in search of more training and found Alphabetic Phonics a Orton Gillingham program. I have sense used what I learn in the almost 160 hours of training with 11 students and seen progress in all of them.

I enjoy children and trying to teach them new and exciting things. At times, I understand that it requires patience to work with children, but if you are able to do that then chances of success are much more likely. I believe that everything we teach to these children will be needed sooner or later in life, and that the understanding of this knowledge will further improve their lives. Rewarding a student for their efforts in trying to understand the material is my game plan. I want them to feel accomplished and satisfied for their hard work.
