Learning can be fun!

My style is a learner centered one. I believe in guided learning, where the students make discoveries themselves while at the same time feeling supported and directed. I am currently teaching English as a second language to post-secondary international students at California State University Sacramento. I graduated from Sonoma State with a BA in English, Single subject emphasis. I am taking a year off before I go back to get my teaching credential in reading. The majority of my classes were geared towards the teaching of reading and writing and I feel confident in my ability to help students improve in those areas. I also worked in a High School writing center and tutored for the past two semesters. I love being around kids and helping them. Currently I live in Tahoe City, but am more than willing to drive to Reno or other areas as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

Upon matriculation at Colby, I enrolled in organic chemistry and decided to major in chemistry. I continued my studies in chemistry and additional areas of interest, including math, government, and economics. Before graduating I participated in an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates at UC Riverside. With the guidance of my primary investigator and a grad student, I gained experience doing research into the fabrication of nano-structures (in this case, reusable and gas-specific sensing devices, or an "e-nose").
