My passion for education blossomed while volunteering as a tutor with Somali refugee children in Pittsburgh, PA during college. I worked with families in their homes to develop English reading, writing, and speaking skills. After graduating with a B.A. in History and Political Science I joined Teach For America, where I taught first grade for two years and substitute taught pre-kindergarten through fifth grade for one year. I have the capability to not only understand but fluently express any material. have done extensive research into tutoring and student-teacher bonds, an aspect I feel is important. I present the fact that the session is a time to learn yet enjoy. I always use my love for knowledge to improve the child's interest in learning - enhancing motivation. I supply the student with a notebook to be used for our sessions which seems to have increased the frequency the student works out of session. I feel that a less stressful mind is more open to intake information. I keep the child focused on what's important to excel. For math, dedication will be important.
