A Little Bit About Me...

I was a teacher of English for 30 years at three high schools in The Netherlands, my last job being a teacher/tutor at "Bisschopelijk College" (Episcopal College)in Weert Holland from 1980 to September 2005. I then emigrated to Texas and married an American in 2006. I taught students ranging between the age of 11 and 19 years of age. I was also involved in adult education for about 10 years in my hometown Venlo. Apart from these positions I was a private tutor for several students in my hometown.
I loved an love teaching children. It is a profession that is rewarding, especially when you book results and success with kids that are not so gifted or have a learning disability. The most important thing about my teaching style is that I believe every child can achieve academic excellence and can be interested in learning. I believe that it is up to me, as a teacher or a tutor, to engage the student(s). A huge part of this is being very transparent about where the student starts, what our goals are for where they are going, and how they are doing along the way. I love working with students to figure out what gets them excited and how they learn best so I can incorporate these strategies into my teaching. I know that by getting students interested and excited about their education, I am helping create lifelong learners who are on a great path in school and in life!

As a native of Louisiana, I thrive on education. I attended McNeese State University from 1986-2010. I earned a B.S. and M. Ed. in Health and Physical Education, in which I taught H & PE for 15 years. I earned a Masters +30 in Administration and Supervision. I have many certificates in Microsoft Office and I am a certified Educational Technology Facilitator. For the past five years, I have been an Administrative Intern at an elementary school in Calcasieu Parish.
