I was an elementary school teacher for 10 years in the Ukraine. I taught Ukrainian and Russian languages, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies to the students of 1-4 grades. My experience teaching began at California State University, Northridge during my time as an undergraduate. During that period I worked as an outreach tutor through the university's Education Equity Program tutoring struggling students at the middle school level in reading and rudimentary mathematics. My motto is one that I adapted from my high school, which is learn by doing. Most students aren't auditory learners, so if I simply spout off a bunch of facts or a mathematical process, then chances are they won't learn anything. After laying the foundation first, the best method of learning is for the student to actually do it themselves. This method of learning by doing has been effective and makes both teaching and learning fun and enjoyable.
