i am pretty relaxed and informal, but I expect students to do the work assigned. I help, but I don't do the work for them. I use Socratic questioning to get students to understand the material. If the original problem is too complicated for the student to understand, I usually first break it down into several easier problems and then guide the student through the thinking process.
