A Little Bit About Me...

What I have garnered from directing theatre is that everyone learns at their own pace, and I utilize that when I teach and coach as well. What I aim to do is create a trusting atmosphere, and employ a positive and nurturing demeanor. I also stress the importance of being focused and prepared, not just with specific subject matter, but in all phases of life, too. A positive outlook can have a major impact on the ability to learn and retain information, and I encourage and project this.
I have extensive teaching experience, not only in the classroom, but I have been a theatre director for twenty years, as well as a soccer coach. I have over a decade of experience working with students in diverse settings - from summer camps where I worked as a counselor and director, to a non-profit where I taught science programs to learners of all ages, to a formal classroom setting. I have earned a BS and MS degree in Natural Resources, which reflect my strong math, science, and social science background. Additionally, I have completed certification requirements to teach K-8 in the state of Idaho. I have taught over 10,000 students over the past 10 years.

In 2006 I began working for the American English Institute as a tutor to university students studying English as a Foreign Language. In 2007 I gained employment with the Eugene, OR school district as a Classified Substitute where I fulfilled a variety of positions; mostly working with IEP students or assisting in Learning Resource Centers. In 2008 I graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA in Chinese and a minor in Asian Studies. In July of 2009 I had the opportunity to travel to Indonesia as an ESL teacher through English First.
