I have had a deep interest in helping people since I was a young child. Seeing someone succeed because of my help is one of the greatest motivators for me, especially when it's "against the odds". As a college student I tutored the students who really wanted to learn but couldn't through no fault of their own--those with learning disabilities and non-native English speakers. I have tutored many subjects such as language (French and English), math, and physical sciences.
It is difficult to describe my teaching style because I try to adapt to the student. Students learn differently and therefore it is my belief that you must observe first and then you have to adapt to the student, especially in a one on one situation. During my undergraduate studies, I was involved in various tutoring/mentoring organizations on campus. I served as a mentor for local area children ages 8-14 as part of an after-school "big buddy" program. During my junior and senior years, I tutored newer students in math, science, and engineering courses. Additionally, I served as a teaching assistant for an upper-level engineering course where I was involved in activities such as answering students' questions regarding course materials, and grading assignments and providing constructive feedback. I am currently working on completing a Masters degree part-time, and would like to pursue a career in teaching.
