For math problems, I usually work problems and explain each step, and then have the student attempt to work a similiar one when they feel like they understand the problems. I try to be as helpful as possible while still focusing on the goal of total understanding for the student, as well as the ability to work a similiar problem independently with confidence. For paper writing, I would have the student brainstorm some ideas, and then together we could discuss the pro's and con's of the topic and organization choice, and provide tips on how we could better the assignment. I am willing to give as much or as little help as a parent would prefer, as good grades are one goal but the students mastery of the material is the most important.

Making Learning as fun as possible.

I prefer to have a fun learning environment. I think you learn from hearing, seeing, and doing.
I’ve had many years of practice in the tutoring field dealing with the fact that my brother has a learning disability. He likes to have fun and thinks that leaning is boring, so I try to make learning as fun as possible. Then I have my student on student tutoring when the students tutor each other. I think its better that way because most students don't really pay attention to their teachers but they take it better when it comes from another student. Sometimes its better because something you understand they may not understand and when you explain it to them then may be they will understand it a little better. Basically what im saying is that some kids learn better from other kids.

Composition is one of my top subjects!

Currently a junior at the University of Memphis, I am seeking a Bachelor's degree in English. I love to write, and have always been the dictionary for people, so my concentration is in Creative Writing. I have very high marks in all my English classes, (transcripts for which available upon request) and am currently 12,000 words into my first book. I have tutored children of many ages in the past, many of whom suffered with audio/visual difficulties such as dyslexia and other reading/comprehension difficulties. In high school, I was frequently the one that people came to for help. It was then that I realized I was extremely good at teaching. My senior year, I spent all day helping four different math teachers, one of which was frequently absent. In order to keep her class from falling behind, she had me make notes and go over practice problems with her classes. Most of the students I have worked with in the past who are learning disabled learn best by seeing and doing( hands-on ) It works best for these students if they are able to see the work being presented and then try it themselves.
