I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. I have found that children are very comfortable with me, which makes the learning process flow more smoothly. I was trained to discover the problems that prevent children from learning to read and absorb written material. Children learn in different ways, and I try to individualize my teaching methods to suit the individual child.
After earning my teaching degree in English, I gained some middle school and high school teaching experience, then took a different path for some years. As a high school student, I was very active in extracurricular activities. I participated in the rotary club, volunteering at local soup kitchens. I was also a member of the Newspaper, Quiz Bowl, Robotics Team, soccer and baseball throughout my high school career.
