My comments on tutoring Algebra II : Took the Honors Algebra 2 class in high school and received an A both semesters. Also tutored a student in Algebra 2.

I took 4 years of Honors and AP mathematics classes at Blue Valley North High School (I received A's in each of the classes). I also received a 5 on the AP Calculus AB test. I have received an A- and an A in Honors General Chemistry at the University of Kansas. I was a tutor for a high school student, in Geometry and Algebra 2. A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored Algebra through Calculus I and Elementary Statistics for the last three years. 1.5 years at both Wichita State University and Washburn University. I'm currently working on a second Bachelors degree in mathematics, but this time with an emphasis in Actuarial Science. This mixes calculus, algebra, and statistics, along with some business classes, into one, keeping them fresh in my mind.
I like starting with the given information and stepping through the processes to solve a problem. Reminding them of, or even showing them, the rules, properties, and examples in the book. I normally try to find the method that best works with each pupil, then highlight on that. I also make sure not to do the work for the student. I will sometimes come up with a similar problem to work through so they can see what's really going on within the problem.

When teaching a math lesson I begin by going over skills already mastered that lead to the lesson at hand. After teaching the new material I then have the student try a similar problem while I watch. If necessary I coach them along, pointing out any problem areas. Then I require the student to try more of the same type of problems until he or she has mastered the new material.
