When I teach, I try my best to be open minded, and to give choices to the student, rather than follow a closed-box cookie cutter curriculum. I've found it's important to find a personal way of learning for a specific student. Variety is important, because every child learns a little differently. Some kids learn by listening, others by seeing. Some kids learn only when they're making things. Encouragement and recognition when progress is attained by the student is a great incentive.
I'm currently a student in school who has had a wide range of experience in various different subjects, specifically working best with mathematics, science and language arts in the elementary and middle school level. I placed in the 99th and 96th percentile respectively with a GT score of 125, and all other line scores in the 130s. I am currently active duty Army. My math skills include all math disciplines up to and including calculus II, however I am strongest in advanced algebra and below.
I have a hands on teaching style with the ability help you understand how to come to the right answer through logic and reasoning. I believe that memorization is NOT learning, and that teaching WHY an answer is correct is more important than the answer itself.
