Japanese is one of my top subjects! I lived in Japan for 31 years and only three years ago moved back to the United States. While in Japan I studied Japanese at the Sendagaya Japanese Language Institute, and while living in Japan and having to function in Japanese, I received a high level of proficiency in the language, both spoken and written. I am currently teaching Japanese in the continuing education department of a community college. My classroom style is extremely thorough, but also humorous and serious at the same time. Teaching is the thing I do best, in my opinion.
My degrees are a B.A. in Latin and also in French from the University of North Carolina and an M.A. in Classics (Greek and Latin) from Florida State University
I have taught all subjects mentioned for a period of over 25 years, both in the United States and Japan. I received a teacher award in Japan for excellence in teaching. My own previous students endorse me as a good, or even great, teacher. As for subjects, I prepared teachers in international schools to teach AP Latin. I taught TOEFL at more than one level to college students in Japan who were seeking to study in the United States as well.
I have a very relaxed style of teaching. Not so relaxed that there is not order in the classroom, but a style designed to put students at ease and to put them into a mood for learning. I encourage participation, active participation in class, and I encourage questions. I seek to explain so that students understand perfectly, and I will not give up until I am convinced that all have a grasp of the subject that I am teaching.
