I started tutoring students middle and high school prior to graduating college. I have taught part-time college students at various institutions since 1996. Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

Web manager and usability analyst as well as instructor. I have been asked at various jobs to teach training classes to my peers because of my ability to deliver an easy to understand lesson. I've been told I am very good at explaining a topic that someone has no experience with at all. I am on contract with NC States Computer Training Unit.
I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.

When trying to reach youth (especially with school work they are not particularly excited about), I have found the best strategy is to first find out where they stand with the subject. This typically involves taking the first session to find out a little about the student, what excites and interests them, and what subjects they do or do not like and why. Then it is best to "test" them to see where they are on the subject they need help with. Once I have identified where they are as a student, I can use my knowledge of who they are to relate the subject matter to things they are interested in, thereby increasing the possibility for learning. This has been my strategy with teenagers in the past and it has proven to be very rewarding.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children and was a Teaching Assistant in New York. My class was small so this gave me a chance to work one-on-one with the students in order to give each child the attention they needed. Some of my duties included preparing lesson plans as well as teaching the lessons to the special needs children.
