Education is the central focus of my everyday life. I have obtained a BS in Management-Health Care/HR and 5 Associate degrees in Business Administration, Administrative Office Technology, Medical Office Technology, Legal Secretary, and College Transfer. I have been homeschooling my son since 2006 and mentoring students through a local church for just as long. In addition, I tutored in 1990-1991 and 1994-1997 while in college to earn extra money. I am a native speaker of German who grew up and was initially educated in Germany. I have taught the German language for over 25 years in many different kinds of classrooms in Turkey, South Korea and the United States. I believe in letting the child set the pace when it comes to private tutoring. I would listen to child to learn what truly interests them and inspires them. I would then use this is my lessons so they enjoy the learning process. Children enjoy learning anything when it is taught in the appropriate way. I learned this very quickly teaching English to French elementary age students.
I know what it takes to teach and learn a foreign language because I am fluent in French. I was inspired by watching the great teachers that I had in high school and college. I try to be as prepared as possible when I teach. I try to have the clearest lesson plan possible. Once this is in place, I try to be as energetic as possible in order to engage the student with the material in question. Additionally, I believe that a teacher must remain patient with all students. If one is prepared, patient and passionate, then success is much more likely. I also try to always remain flexible and ready to adapt to the needs of the student or students.
