A Little Bit About Me...

I attended Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, one of the top 2 school in teaching in Michigan. In college, I tutored Biology and Chemistry. Most of my Chemistry students still thank me today for getting them through the course and into the nursing program. I graduated with a BS in secondary education,Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I have been in North Carolina for almost 4 years and I have taught Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science. I also enjoy Math. I am able to tutor Math students up to and including Algebra I.
I have taken several courses on the different styles of learning. I try to find out what style works best for my students and work from there. When trying to reach youth (especially with school work they are not particularly excited about), I have found the best strategy is to first find out where they stand with the subject. This typically involves taking the first session to find out a little about the student, what excites and interests them, and what subjects they do or do not like and why. Then it is best to "test" them to see where they are on the subject they need help with. Once I have identified where they are as a student, I can use my knowledge of who they are to relate the subject matter to things they are interested in, thereby increasing the possibility for learning. A Little Bit About Me...

I have seven (7) years of musical experience in concert band, jazz band, marching band, orchestra, and pep band. I also have tutored through the Boys and Girls Club along with a program my college inacted for students who were hearing-impaired, mostly in the areas of math and grammar. I have also graduated in the top 10% of my class, both in high school and college. I have maintained a 3.0 GPA in both high school and college. My strengths are math and grammar.
