My comments on tutoring Elementary Reading : I have taught reading in the elementary and middle schools. Students need to comprehend or understand what they read. I teach strategies to assist the learner in understanding information read. Involved in learning to read is developing vocabulary, also identifying main idea/details and other skills essential to becoming a proficient reader.
I taught in the public school system for twenty-four and a half years. During that time I held various positions. I have taught self-contained behavior students and learning disabled resource classes. As a teacher, I provided individualized instruction in the areas of reading, writing, and math to students identified as exceptional. I also conducted and participated in parent meetings. I also performed duties such as, writing Individualized Education Plans, serving in the capacity of liaison between student and regular teacher, and serving on the school-based committee to determine the educational needs of students. As an Assessment Consultant, my duties were to facilitate the goals, objectives, and expectations associated with the NC Statewide Testing Program; Assist in the administration, scoring and disaggregation of school test data.
