I have helped students from my church for the past eight years in math science and english. I have also worked with my sisters first grade students in math. I enjoy working with youth. It is extremely rewarding to watch a child when that " i get moment" happens and their face lights up with pride, happiness and a sense of accomplishment.
Try to customize to students intrest in order to keeep attention and make as entertaining as possible. Every child sees things from different eyes. I just teach them how to look. I know that as a student I would hear one explanation that all of a sudden made things so clear and seem so simple. I try to find this for every individual student.

I seek a student-centered classroom with a balance of authority and trustworthiness in the teacher so that the students respect me while at the same time feeling comfortable to share their ideas freely. I like for students to apply what they learn soon after the lesson. For example, if the subject was math, and we had been doing multiplication by flash cards, I might ask a question about the number of squares on a chess board. The idea is to firmly ground the students with their comfort zone as foundation and build upon their confidence with new ways of applying what they have learned so that they continue thinking outside of the rote lesson.

Although I have not formally been in the classroom since 1998, I regularly tutor my own children. While in college at MTSU, I was a substitute teacher in Rutherford County for 3 years, mainly substituting at Central Middle School. I also did various volunteer tutoring in the Elementary schools as class credit toward my degree. Due to having my oldest child my senior year of college, I was forced into the general workforce due to finances, and do not have any formal teaching experience outside of substituting. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience as a teacher and instructor has been centered around my experience as a musician. Learning how to play and read music drastically helped me in school in all of my other subject areas. I knew early on that I would continue to play music and also that I would want to stay involved with music in some way. I earned a degree in music education in 2001 and although I didn't begin my public school teaching experiences until 2003 I began teaching private lessons and tutoring other students while still in high school.
