I have a long history of tutoring experience along with substitute teaching at The Baylor School in Chattanooga from 2000 until 2008 and prior to that at various private homes for 2 years. I have a BA degree in Economics/International Studies/French from the University of TN – Chattanooga, a certificate in French from the Sorbonne in Paris and 23 hours in English from Arizona State University. I also have graduate work in non-profit management with a concentration in fundraising. I was a student teacher while attending College for my BS in Biology and minor in Chemistry. In 1982-84 I taught Biology to pre-nursing students while attending school for Commercial Art at Fayetteville Community College. I coached personnel on computer skill (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as part of my daily job. I speak, read and write Spanish, college level.
I believe working with children is best on a one to one basis. This provides the student special attention to fulfill their needs. I am a firm believer that building a positive attitude and self confidence will provide them with the desire to excel. I know what it takes to teach and learn a foreign language because I am fluent in French. I was inspired by watching the great teachers that I had in high school and college. I have taught English as a second language, so I have classroom experience to add to my general knowledge of the language and culture.
I believe in letting the child set the pace when it comes to private tutoring. I would listen to child to learn what truly interests them and inspires them. I would then use this is my lessons so they enjoy the learning process. Children enjoy learning anything when it is taught in the appropriate way.
