A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored my peers throughout high school, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge of mathematics with others. During high school, I scored a perfect score of 800 on both SAT II Math Level 2 and Korean. I am currently attending Normandale with a major in Liberal Arts with Emphasis in Mathematics. I hope to transfer to a 4 year university to double major in economics and mathematics.
I am very patient especially for students who learn slower than others because I was always a slow learner myself. I am very happy to repeat myself or go over other examples to help the student understand the concept. I also like to emphasize concept over memorization. Of course, math has a good amount of memorization, and yes, it is important; however, I believe that learning concept is more useful than sheer memorization, and understanding a concept is better than memorizing formulas and properties.

My background in Atmospheric Sciences gives me a good base in science and math. I feel my skills will allow me to tutor with both science and math classes, including Calculus I and II classes. I have spent over a year at Project for Pride for Learning in Minneapolis tutoring low income people on basic and moderate computer skills and job searching advice when I was an volunteer there from May 2008 to July 2009.
I have a positive approach to teaching. I am very patient when I go through the lessons and go back and review any older material if it is needed in order to grasp the current lesson of the day. I work hard to make the content stick and I always enjoy to see that light of realization in their eyes when they grasp the concept I am teaching them.

I have helped my fellow students learn for nearly as long as I've been learning, myself. While attending Community College, I worked as a Peer Tutor in a wide range of subjects. While attending University, I worked as a General Subject Tutor and as a Math Tutor. I studied abroad in South Korea for one year, during which time I tutored Korean students in English and worked as a Classroom Aide and Assistant Teacher in several private schools. During all this time, at home and abroad, I also offered my services as a Private Tutor, assisting students with Math, Computer Science, and English.
