I love teaching and kids. I always separate the behavior from the child. The little kids that I tutor at the Boys and Girls Club love me! I am just really good at what I do. When I was teaching, I had a stellar reputation with my students and the community. I worked with the Minnesota Literacy Council tutoring adult learners in basic math and reading skills. I attempted multiple approaches with each person until we found one that allowed the learner to make sense of the symbols and language. I encouraged the ability to work at the material until the learner could make it his/her own in some way. I also trained new employees each month in the use of a software program at a pharmaceutical company. Employees were required to learn the program regardless of experience and ability with computer programs. I was challenged to engage disinterested employees, encourage frustrated employees, and meet the demands of highly inquisitive employees while maintaining focus on the required information.

I have a concrete-sequential learning style, and am very aware of the need for practice and repetition to develop and perfect skill acquisition. Stereotypically low proficiency in writing capabilities in many students is due to the fact that many of them are not expected to produce nearly enough original written materials of any length during their public school years. They are also far more likely to become successful writers if they will discipline themselves to read a great deal.
